Labels: Australia - Australian Certified Organic (ACO)

The label for in conversion products:

  • Shall be clearly distinguishable from the label for organic products.
  • Shall be accompanied by colour coding or other visibly obvious means of differentiation, including information for consumers regarding labeling systems used.

Certified organic products shall be GMO free,

  • Claims as to the GE or GMO free status of organic products for sale shall conform to relevant regulatory requirements for labeling,
  • Shall be verified by the operator.

FOR PROCESSED PRODUCTS

“100% organic”

  • a minimum of 100% of all ingredients (excluding water and salt) come from certified organic sources

“Certified Organic”

  • a minimum of 95% weight/weight of all ingredients (excluding water and salt) come from certified organic sources, and where all other materials are allowed under this Standard
  • Multiple ingredient products shall be constituted of a minimum of 95% certified organic ingredients not certified in conversion to organic ingredients

“Made with organic ingredients”

  • Less than 95% but not less than 70% weight/weight of all ingredients (excluding water and salt) are of certified organic origin, and where all other materials are allowed under this Standard for use in certified processed product, the statement “” may be made on the label.

FOR LIVESTOCK PRODUCTS

“Certified Organic”

  • 100% of agricultural origin feed shall come from certified organic sources and not in conversion feeds

FOR AGRICULTURE PRODUCTS

“Certified Organic”

  • Agricultural origin ingredients shall come from certified organic or certified wildharvest (in accord with this organic standard) sources to a minimum of 95% of all ingredients (excluding salt and water)

“Wild Harvest”

  • Products containing a total content of Wild Harvest products

“Organic”

  • Products containing mixtures of Wild Harvest and Organic

 

Labels: Australia - NASAA Certified Organic

Conversion labeling makes it clear that the:

  • Ingredients within the certified product are from a farm in the stage of conversion to organic that may have only been using organic management practices for a short time.
  • The first level of certification where a label can be used is called “Conversion to Organic”.
  • The conversion label must be clearly distinguishable from the Organic label

Organic products shall not be labeled as GMO free in the context of this Standard.

Any reference to genetic engineering or product labels shall be limited to the production and processing methods themselves having not used GMOs.

The NASAA Label accurately indicates

  • Throughout the market chain, including the consumer, that the produce so labeled has been produced in accordance with this Standard.
  • Where more than 5% of agricultural ingredients are non organic, no NASAA Label may be used and the product description may only make reference to the organic ingredients certified by NASAA.
  • Any product of non organic agricultural origin shall not include prohibited products or ingredients or be subject to prohibited processing methods.
  • All ingredients of a multi ingredient product shall be listed on the product label in order of their weight percentage. It shall be apparent which ingredients are of organic certified origin and which are not. All additives and preservatives shall be listed with their full name.

Labeling of certified products must include the following details:

  • The person or company legally responsible for the production or processing of the product
  • Level of certification
  • NASAA registration number and relevant NASAA Label

Certified organic products may not include the same ingredient derived from both an organic and a non-organic (including Conversion to Organic and Organic) source.

FOR PROCESSED PRODUCTS

“Certified Organic”

  • must contain a minimum of 95% of Organic ingredients by raw material weight (excluding salt and added water)

“In conversion to Organic”

  • Where more than 5% of Conversion to Organic ingredients are used in an Organic product

“Reference to certification or certified ingredients”

  • Where the Organic ingredients are between 70% and 95%

FOR POULTRY PRODUCTS

“Certified organic poultry”

  • must be fed on feed which is certified Organic.

“Conversion to Organic”

  • Feeding any portion of feed which is certified Conversion to organic

FOR LIVESTOCK PRODUCTS

“Organic or Biodynamic”

  • the livestock diet must be sourced from organic or biodynamic feed.

“In conversion”

  • Feeding any portion of in conversion feed

 

Labels: Canada - Canada Organic Regime (COR)

“organic” / “organically grown” / “organically raised” / “organically produced” / 

  • Products identified as being produced under an organic production system conforming to this standard

“organic” / “biodynamic” / “biological”/ “ecological”

  • A product will be regarded as bearing indications referring to organic production methods

FOR UNPROCESSED PLANTS AND PLANT PRODUCTS, LIVESTOCK AND LIVESTOCK PRODUCTS shall refer to organic production methods only where

  • Such indications clearly show that they relate to a method of agricultural production
  • The product was produced in accordance with this standard
  • The product was produced or imported by an operator who is certified in compliance with this standard
  • The labeling refers to the name of the certification body that governs the operator of the production or the most recent preparation (processing, packaging and labeling) operation.

FOR PROCESSED AGRICULTURAL CROP AND LIVESTOCK PRODUCTS intended for human consumption shall refer to organic production methods only where

  • Such indications clearly show that they relate to an organic method of agricultural production and are linked with the name of the organic product in question, unless this information is clearly given in the list of ingredients.
  • All the ingredients of agricultural origin of the product are, or are derived from, products conforming to this standard, except in cases of labeling claims of less than 95% organic ingredients.
  • The product is free of any ingredient of non-agricultural origin
  • The product does not contain both the non-organic and organic form of ingredient.
  • The product or its ingredients have not been subjected during preparation to treatments involving the use of ionizing radiation
  • The product was prepared or imported by a certified operator
  • The labeling refers to the name of the certification body that certified the operator of the production or the most recent preparation (processing, packaging and labeling) operation.   

“organic”

  • 95% or more (by mass or fluid volume, excluding water and salt) of the ingredients are obtained from sources of organic production in accordance with this standard
  • Non-organic ingredients are allowed for use to within a maximum level of 5% (by  mass or fluid volume, excluding water and salt) of the total ingredients in the final product if they are not commercially available in an organic form, and the cost of organic ingredients is not to be used as a criterion for commercially available.

“Contains X% organic”

  • Products containing 70 to 95% or more (by mass or fluid volume, excluding water and salt) of agricultural ingredients that are organic in accordance with this standard

“organic ingredients labeled organic”

  • Products containing less than 70% (by mass or fluid volume, excluding water and salt) of agricultural ingredients that are organic in accordance with this standard

Label with the terms “organic” or “made with organic ingredients”:

  • The products packaging shall be inscribed with the name (corporate name) of the certification body

 

Labels: European Union - EU Leaf

“organic”

  • Processed food where all or almost all the ingredients of agricultural origin are organic
  • This term should not be used for products containing GMOs, consisting of GMOs or produced from GMOs. 
  • However, special labeling provisions should be laid down for processed foods which include agricultural ingredients that cannot be obtained organically as it is the case for products of hunting and fishing.

 EU-logo

  • Limit the use to products which contain only, or almost only organic ingredients in order not to mislead consumers as to the organic nature of the entire product.
  • It should therefore not be allowed to use it in the labeling of in-conversion products or processed foodstuffs of which less than 95% of its ingredients if agricultural origin are organic.

 

Labels: Germany - Naturland

  • The labeling of a product enables the buyer to identify the person or company legally responsible for the product.
  • For the consumer, wild grown products have to be clearly and visibly distinguishable from products of organic agriculture.
  • To ensure this, the origin of every "wild grown product" has to be made clear on its label on the list of ingredients or in the information printed on the product wrapping material.
  • The note is not obligatory if the share of wild grown products in a mixed product is less than 25%.

FOR PROCESSING:

  • The endorsement of foodstuffs, fodder and articles for daily use by making a reference to Naturland, to certification by Naturland or by applying the Naturland trademark is solely permitted on the basis of a valid sublicensing agreement and a valid Naturland certificate.
  • In addition to fulfilling statutory requirements, the following must be observed when labeling products certified by Naturland: Full declaration-All the ingredients of each product must be listed completely (even in the case of compound ingredients) in the order of their weight as a percentage of the total weight.
  • In the case of herbs and spices, the general term may be used if their weight does not exceed 2% of the weight of the product.
  • The use of iodized table salt has to be indicated clearly.
  • Food additives must be listed with their complete designation.
  • All raw materials and ingredients certified by Naturland must be labeled clearly and unambiguously with the word NATURLAND or bear the Naturland logo.
  • Products labeled with the Naturland trademark, bearing reference to Naturland or to certificaton by Naturland, contain raw goods, ingredients, food additives and processing additives from agricultural sources (hereinafter referred to as primary substances) which have been certified by Naturland.
  • If primary substances certified by Naturland are not available in the right quality or in sufficient quantity, application may be made to use primary substances from other sources from the following list of priorities.
  • The highest priority is accorded to the use of primary substances certified by Naturland.
  • Primary substances from certifiers whose certification is recognised by Naturland as being of an equivalent standard may be used after receiving written approval from the Naturland certification committee.
  • If the primary substances are not available, raw goods recertified by Naturland and primary substances from other certifiers may only be used after receiving written approval from the Naturland certification committee (for a limited period).
  • If the primary substances are not available, organically produced primary substances may be employed for a limited period where sufficient justification exists and then only after receiving written approval from the Naturland admissions committee, provided these primary substances at least comply with the statutory requirements for organic products under currently valid national legislation (eg EU Directive, NOP) of the country in which the goods are to be put on the market.
  • However, manufacturer is obliged to replace these primary substances with primary substances certified by Naturland as quickly as possible.
  • Conventional primary substances may only be used after receiving prior approval from the Naturland certification committee and even then only for max. 5% (not including water and salt) of the final product, on condition that they are not available from organic sources and that the primary substances have not been genetically modified.
  • In complete feed with Naturland labeling, at most 30% of the agricultural raw materials is allowed to be from conversion period.

FOR PRODUCTION:

  • Landless farming is prohibited. The basis of animal nutrition is the feed produced on the farm itself.
  • At least 50% of the feed must be produced on the farm itself (or come from a co-operation with another organic farm approved by Naturland).
